B-02 Electrolyte abnormalities - Case-based discussion

Samuel Mamane, Canada

Overview

We face electrolyte abnormalities on a daily basis. Many are easy to deal with, but others leave us scratching our heads and calling on colleagues to discuss. Through cases, we will explore some of the various electrolyte abnormalities, focusing on concomittant diagnosis and management.

Objectives

- Identify etiologies of hyponatremia, and treat without overcorrection

- Identify etiologies of hypocalcemia, learning to guide investigations while concomittantly managing

- Identify common causes of rarer electrolye abnormalities - pattern recognition for the outpatient setting.
