Overview

Food allergies are a frequently difficult diagnosis for patients and families.  In 2023 there are management strategies available for these patient but understanding the protocols used ofr oral immunotherapy, the risks and the commitment needed is essential before embarking on this management course.

Understanding the principles and limitations as well as prognosis is key in helping families in the shared decision making for their children.

Objectives

•To discuss recognition of food allergies in children

•To understand management options including oral immunotherapy

•To enumerate the advantages and limitations of oral immunotherapy

•To discuss managing patient/family expectations
