Dr. Serge Mayrand is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at McGill University. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Montreal in 1984 and completed his residency in internal medicine and gastroenterology at McGill University and at the Montreal General Hospital in 1989. He then pursued his Fellowship and research training in esophageal disorders at the University of Toronto and Toronto Western Hospital, under the supervision of Dr. NE Diamant. In 1992, he joined the Department of Medicine and the Division of Gastroenterology at the Montreal General Hospital and the McGill University Health Center, where he holds the position of Director of the Esophageal Motility Laboratory. He is also co-director and co-founder of the McGill Multidisciplinary Esophageal Clinic, dedicated to the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of benign esophageal disorders. His main academic interests include diseases of the esophagus, in particular motility disorders and gastroesophageal reflux disease and its complications such as Barrett's esophagus. He was site divisional director (Montreal General Hospital) from 1997 to 2007. He has served on the executive committee of the Québec Association of Gastroenterologists from 2011, assuming the role of vice-president between 2019 until 2021.
